Dr. Himal Shah
Dr. Himal Shah is the founder of Heart and Rhythm Solutions. Dr. Shah completed her clinical fellowship training in Cardiac Electrophysiology from Aurora Sinai Medical Center, University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She got her training in Cardiology at the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri. Dr. Shah completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Texas Tech University, El Paso, Texas. She earned her medical degree from Shivaji University in India.
Dr. Shah is board certified in Cardiovascular Disease. She participates in multicenter clinical trials to offer her patients access to the most up-to-date therapies, devices and treatments. Dr. Shah has presented her research at international meetings. She is a member of Heart Rhythm Society, American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.
Erica Balliet, MSN, FNP-C was born in Pennsylvania and was raised here in Phoenix, Arizona. She graduated from The University of Arizona in 2007 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and went on to receive her Masters Degree in Nursing from Grand Canyon University in 2013. She received her national certification from the American Association of Nurse Practitioners in family practice medicine in 2013 as well. Erica is currently a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Arizona Nurses Association, and the Preventative Cardiovascular Association. Prior to joining the team at Heart and Rhythm Solutions in 2014, Erica was a Registered Nurse at Banner Heart Hospital for seven years. She gained a great deal of cardiovascular experience and knowledge working in the cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) and received national certification in the care of critically ill patients and post cardiac surgery patients. Erica lives in Gilbert with her husband and 2 dogs. In her spare time, Erica enjoys running marathons and half marathons, traveling, and spending time with family.
Dr. Phan is originally from Viet Nam. He spent his early years in Tucson, Arizona where he graduated from the University of Arizona summa cum laude with honors. Dr. Phan studied medicine and received his combined MD/PhD degree at the University of Texas – Houston Medical School. He then returned to the University of Arizona for his Internal Medicine residency and served one year as Chief Medical Resident. With a passion for understanding heart diseases and arrhythmias, Dr. Phan undertook further training in Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology at the University of California – San Diego. Dr. Phan is board certified in both Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology and General Cardiology. Dr. Phan has expertise in medical treatment and radiofrequency ablation of various cardiac arrhythmias including ventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, atrial tachycardia, WPW, other supraventricular tachycardia, and premature ventricular contractions (PVCs). Dr. Phan employs new technologies in 3-D mapping and ablation to improve outcomes and patient’s safety. In addition, Dr. Phan implants a wide spectrum of cardiac devices such as loop recorder, pacemaker, defibrillator, and biventricular (resynchronization) system. Dr. Phan believes in “Patient’s First and Team Work” approach where healthcare professionals work together in a collegial environment to provide the best care for patients. Dr. Phan lives in Chandler with his wife, Tammy, who teaches at Chandler Unified School District. They enjoy traveling, hiking, playing tennis, and gardening in their free time.

Heather has over 7 years of cardiology Medical Assistant experience and has been a member of Heart & Rythm team since 2012. Heather came to Arizona from Southern California where her three sisters and one brother still live. Heathers true passion is taking the best care of patients and she doesn’t hesitate to go out of her way to help Heart & Cardiology patients whenever possible.
Natasha C. Smith-Nelson is an Electrophysiology Tech., Certified Medical Assistant, and a Cardiovascular Tech. Natasha she graduated from Florida Technical College in Orlando, Florida, receiving her Associate of Science degree and graduating with a 4.0 and on the Dean’s List. She has been in the medical field since the age of 18 starting at Alachua County Hospital in Gainesville, Florida transporting patients in the radiology department. She has been in Cardiology/Electrophysiology since 2005. Natasha moved to Arizona from Florida in 2008 with her husband Scott and two children Kyle and Rebecka. She is a very proud wife, mother and healthcare provider.
James is a Medical Assistant (MA) who has always had a passion for helping people. James started in customer service and expanded his ability to help by becoming a certified pharmacy technician. He worked in field for several years before returning to school to become an EMT. However, when he was unable to find steady work and he went back to school to become an MA. In additiona to helping people James also enjoy movies, books, rad trips, camping and hiking – to name a few. James is always seeking opportunities to learn and expand his knowledge and experience in order to be a valuable member of any health care team.
